2. African hair should not be washed often. Dirt is good an encourages growth, while washing often rids hair of its natural oils.
When hair is not washed, there is product buildup, dandruff, flake formation which blocks the scalp sebum pores, thus preventing the efficient secretion of natural oils which we need for healthy hair. Washing hair often, once or twice every two weeks, prevents the hair follicles from suffocating! Washing too often with shampoo, like 3x a week may leave hair feeling brittle and dry also. So its all about balance. Wash in moderation and Instead of using shampoo all the time, just wash with conditioner occasionally. It'll clean the hair but not rid it of it's oils.
3. Brushing your hair often makes it grow faster!
Right? Wrong
Brushing your hair often leads to breakage, which equals to thinner and sometimes weaker, more brittle hair. Try not to handle your hair too much. Instead do protective styles that will ensure you don't fiddle with your natural hair too much!
4. Using hair oil on your hair is good for moisture
Mare hair oils seel hair, blocking water from keeping hair moisturized, which instead equals dry hair. So instead of ordinary hair oils, look for water based moisturizers.
5. Trimming hair helps it grow faster
Trimming hair gets rid of split ends, reducing shedding and makes hair look healthier and thicker. But hair grows at the root, not the tip. It grows an average of ½ inch monthly.
