A Birthday Meme

On my birthday

The other day I came across this lovely birthday meme Chez Mummy, she had seen it at the five fs and now it's playing at my house.

When's your birthday?

31st March, as the blog name would suggest I hit the big 4-0 this year, it’s still reeling from the blow I fear.

Pick three people who share your birthday and share what you know about them

I already knew I was born on the same day (not year!) as René Descartes of “I think therefore I am” fame, but Wonderful Wikipedia has just informed me I should be sharing my cake with Deborah Cavendish, Duchess of Devonshire and owner of Chatsworth House. She’s a fascinating character and actually replied in person to a letter a French friend wrote about our fabulous day out there.

I could also have a joint party with Christopher Walken – no Russian roulette this time I hope, and – more to my liking, Ewan McGregor – Obi Wan himself. As a big star wars fan (as you can see from this post) I’m sure this is a sign.

Is anyone listed as being born on the same day and the same year as you?  If so, what do you know about them?

Alejandro Amenábar, Spanish director,  Andrew Bowen, American actor, Ze Frank, American internet performance artist, composer, humorist, and public speaker, Luca Gentili, Italian footballer, and last but not least  Hristos Polihroniou, Greek hammer thrower are all my birthday twins, and no, I’ve never heard of any of them.

List three people who died on your birthday and tell us what you know about them

Gruesome but fascinating, John Donne the British poet, Constable the landscape artist, Charlotte Brontë and Anne Frank all died on this day.

List three notable events that took place on your birthday

In 1492 Isabella of Castile issued the Alhambra decree, forcing the Moors to convert or leave Spain. This gave the Spanish monarchs the time and finances to help out their old friend Christopher, who was planning a boat trip.

The Eiffel tower opened for business in 1889 and in 1959 the 14th Dalai Lama left Tibet for the last time to claim asylum in India.

Tell us about a holiday that falls on your birthday

Not sure about any holidays on this date, although Easter sometimes falls around this time, the interesting thing for me is that it is Saint Benjamin’s day, the name of my son, and for those of you familiar with the bible (or who’ve seen Joseph and his technicolour dream coat) you’ll know that Benjamin’s mother was Rachel, now there’s a coincidence.

I won’t be tagging anyone else as I stumbled across this meme rather late in the game, but if you want to play too then please join in.
