I’m so proud of my daughter today, and I think I should be given Mommy bragging rights for this moment.  I need to gloat!  She started a new school last week, and when she came in, her classroom was in the middle of preparing for a performance of Shel Silverstein poems.  I need to give props to the teacher, because she completely made it possible for my daughter to be in the performance, too.  With one week to prepare, my daughter learned all her lines and fit right in.  I honestly can’t believe she was able to pull it off in so little time.  I’m impressed, kiddo!

One thing we learned last night during the performance was that Shel Silverstein actually wrote the lyrics to Johnny Cash’s infamous song, “A Boy Named Sue.”  Omg!  How could I have never have known this???!!!??  Now looking at the song, I can completely see Shel Silverstein in it, but who woulda thunk it?

So – here you go.  “A Boy Named Sue” is my song of the day both in awe of the great poet and with pride for my little girl for rising to the occasion.
