A Tale Of Frangipani Blossoms

Posted on the 17 July 2014 by Sreesha @petrichor_blore

A long time ago, before Aarav ke papa and I got married, he used to take me for long bike rides. Of late, I’ve been reminiscing those days – simpler times before we both “grew up”. (If he’s reading this, he’s probably wondering if I really think we grew up, but anyway…) I used to demand every now and then that he take me to (one of the most unromantic places in the world) the Electronic City-Hosur flyover at night. Dutiful boyfriend that he was, he would agree and off we would go after the rest of the city went to sleep. Well, I mean the non-IT, not-so-overworked, not-so-back-broken, not-so-night-shift part of the city.It was one such night. I had packed a mini picnic (sort of) with a choco lava cake, a bottle of coke and some chicken wings. We parked the bike on the side of the road, near the Infosys campus. It was drizzling a little. We both sat on the pavement and began to eat. There was hardly any traffic, as it was late in the night and the roads were wet, reflecting the light off them. It was a lovely setting made lovelier - when suddenly I caught the fragrance of frangipani! Now, my friends from college would know that frangipani has always been my favorite scent. Most girls like roses, most mothers-in-law like jasmine gajras, but I was always about frangipani blossoms. I often describe its scent as deliciously haunting. It reminds you of every beautiful dream that you have had but forgotten about. It makes you feel you’re falling in love with an ethereal being. It is romantic and drowsy at the same time. In that concrete jungle called Electronic City, I don’t know where and how the frangipani managed to bloom. But its heady scent, mixed with that of the earlier drizzle and the picnic we had on pavement is a memory I would always cherish.
