I confessed on Wednesday I sometimes… well, mostly all of the time… neglect to check in on Sundays when I think I am not measuring up to my goals or measuring up to the rest of you who I imagine are rising up with leaps and bounds while I am languishing, even if it is only in my mind.
I took off that cloak this week so here I am, warts and wrinkles and writing zits intact. Don’t worry, none of this is catching. :~)
So – my goals – and reports….
- Read a new collection of poems monthly.
I have been doing this and more so, actually. Right now I am reading three poetry collections including The Late Wife by Claudia Emerson and ideal cities by Erike Meitner. I have not gotten poetry drunk in the past couple weeks, but am thinking of making a library reading date with myself so I may satiate myself with word-lust among the racks.
- Read ten minutes a day from a writing technique book.
When I finished reading Wired for Story I didn’t have any other writing technique books around that I hadn’t finished. I went to my local bookstore and checked on Amazon for best selling writing technique books and realized I have read many. It was sort of a cool feeling. I decided I needed to just start something so I am now beginning with Muriel Rukeyser’s Life of Poetry. It isn’t exactly a technique book but it is a series of essays and talks she gave. It will definitely be an education.
- Write 1,000 words of “useful” words daily. (I write very quickly so this is not a stretch for me at all, for those of you who are thinking I am nuts.)
Except for yesterday when I didn’t spend any time at all at the keyboard after 9 am, I have been doing well on this one.
- Edit 30 minutes daily toward the WIP.
I suck. Major fail. Dusting off, rebooting, will report glowingly next Sunday… I hope.
- Participate in Team Sprinty as regularly as possible.
I even made a night time sprint this week! I also found in my notebook from last year the pages I wrote while participating in Team Sprinty last year on a train from San Francisco back to Bakersfield. I love this group. Love. It. Seriously!
- Hop around Row80 posters aiming for 3 comments per day a minimum
Reasonably decent on this one. Could improve.
- Remember I do this because I am deeply in love with words.
AMEN!
Thank you for reading & commenting as you feel compelled. I am so proud I wrote this post… so that alone makes it all worth it!
Until Wednesday… when I will be writing about my artist date/writer’s fieldtrip to Echo Park and Los Feliz. :~) Just a little teaser for you and a commitment so I must write it for me!
Word-Love!
