I’m jumping out of my skin with excitement, blog readers! For those of you who don’t know, I co-wrote a little children’s musical production, and our show is on Monday. Today is our final dress rehearsal. It is getting so real! This is a completely new experience for me, as even though I write every day of my life, being in the creative process for a play and seeing it through to the end is something I’ve never done before.
Let me tell you about our show!
“The Three Taishim Chaverim” or “Three Goat Friends” is a Jewish satire on “The Three Billy Goats Gruff.” The show is a culmination of a 10-week class as part of the JCC’s family engagement after school enrichment series. Our performers are 12 children; Kindergarteners – 2nd graders. Here is more information about the show if you are local and want to come: http://www.tucsonjcc.org/children/family-programs/j-care-preforming-arts-club/
Yes, I am excited beyond words, but I must admit that I’m kind of nervous about it, too. Nerves for performance is not something I have experienced in a long time. Perhaps it is because it is new unconquered territory for me or perhaps it is because I am handing over my beloved script to young children. Fortunately, the excitement overshadows the nerves, but I have a need to acknowledge these feelings. Maybe when it’s all over I can even say I embraced those feelings, too. For now, however, I can think of little else.
Today, I am sharing the butterflies dancing around in my tummy with all of you. That is why my song of the day is Green Day’s “Basket Case,” because even though “Basket Case” may be an extreme way of putting it, I’m not exactly a mellow smooth-as-glass pool of water either. Click HERE to hear the song on Youtube and please send your “break a leg” vibes. I need them!
