There’s been a response – a comment issued from Renee Zellweger regarding the drastic changes she has permanently made to her appearance seemingly from plastic surgery.
“I’m glad folks think I look different. I’m living a different, happy, more fulfilling life, and I’m thrilled that perhaps it shows. My friends say that I look peaceful. I am healthy. For a long time I wasn’t doing such a good job with that. I took on a schedule that is not realistically sustainable and didn’t allow for taking care of myself. Rather than stopping to recalibrate, I kept running until I was depleted and made bad choices about how to conceal the exhaustion. I was aware of the chaos and finally chose different things.I did work that allows for being still, making a home, loving someone, learning new things, growing as a creative person and finally growing into myself.”
Sorry, Renee, I just don’t buy it, because being “healthy” is understanding your beauty from within. Being “peaceful” is being content with who you are. Sure – you had a busy schedule making movies back to back and promoting them and living up to the media circus. We, your fans, all get that. Perhaps you did make some “bad choices,” but altering your face to the extent that you did does not reflect a happy and peaceful person. Rather, it is a glaring flashing red warning light of someone who is UNhappy with themselves, and sorry for the huge outpouring of negative attention when these photos were released yesterday, but your fans are worried about you.
The hardest part of accepting your new looks is that your “old” face was absolutely beautiful! You had character, charm, individuality, and the world fell in love with you because of it. You were someone we could all relate to, because you didn’t look like the typical Hollywood Barbie doll. Instead of embracing all of that, you took drastic measures to fulfill the warped image of what you consider to be beautiful. That is why there is this large reaction, because Renee, your new appearance brings about feelings of sadness from most.
Of course, most of us would jump at the opportunity for a little nip tuck if we had the financial means, but changing who you are completely to the point of being unrecognizable is horribly sad. It is horribly sad that our society has made you feel like you did not live up to the standard of the ideal beauty. It is horribly sad that you were not content with who you were without making all of these changes. It is horribly sad that you are no longer that girl that we can relate to, because, Renee, there is so much beauty in flaws. It’s what makes us all unique.
Now that that’s off of my chest, my song of the day is Christina Aguilera’s “Beautiful,” which is the perfect song for this topic. “Beautiful” is a good lesson for all of us, and perhaps Renee Zellweger is a reminder to take care of ourselves and others, to be careful of the words we choose and to not buy into the ideal of beauty that has been fabricated from Hollywood and glamour magazines. If we all promised to adhere to all of that, the world would be a better place.
