Sanjay Leela Bhansali had been toying with the idea of adapting something for
Bollywood again. “It’s too alluring, this star-crossed lover nonsense”, he thought. As he mulled things over, thinking about set designs, the colors came together in his head: a Garba infused musical adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, where the colors, gun- violence and possibly the male lead, are all on steroids.
“I will make one of the leaders female, that will keep all these feminist bullies quiet”, he thought.
