Ever since we went to the Oro Valley Music Festival (CLICK HERE to read my blog post about it), my 8-year-old son has been obsessed with the American Authors.  They were so great live, and their music is just so positive and fun.  I, too, have become a fan of their music, but I love seeing my son really getting into a band.  It reminds me of myself when I was his age.

I danced all around my house listening to Madonna and Duran Duran, and even at that young age, I was already becoming the Tucson Songstress and an avid music fan.  As I watch him singing into my hair brush reiterating every lyric by his new favorite band (Like hell you can’t memorize your science vocabulary, kiddo!) and pulling our microphone all around the house to show off his rock star dance moves, I know I’ve got a true music fan on the brink of years of musical adventures to come.  This makes a musical mama so proud and immensely excited for him, as I know what an awesome road ahead a music fan has.  Music is, after all, the one thing in life that is a constant source of happiness, comfort for pain and beauty to create the mood of all of your surroundings.  It is the most loyal of friends, and I am overjoyed that my son has found music that touches him deeply.  That means a lot to me and even more to him.

So on that happy musical note, my song of the day is by my son’s favorite band, The American Authors.  Their song, “Believer,” is the best positive energy for this moment.

They sing these lyrics over and over again in their song:

I’m just a believer
That things will get better
Some can take it or leave it
But I don’t wanna let it go

In this musical family, we believe in music, because it always makes things better just as the song says.  We don’t ever “wanna let it go.”
