Summer camp was off to a great start yesterday. When I picked my son up, the sports camp unit head gave me an excellent report about his first day. My sometimes prickly son was, in his words, “amazing!”
My son is really excited about being part of sports camp. He is an excellent athlete, but he sometimes does not have the best attitude. Yesterday was stellar, however, because his is thrilled to be focusing on all sports this summer.
All of this said, there could be a potential snag in his summer plans. As it ends up, he was staying with relatives in Phoenix over the weekend for a fun little excursion, and his pinky finger got caught in a Murphy bed. I didn’t like the looks of it when I picked him up yesterday and brought him to Urgent Care to have it X-Rayed. Yes, it ends up his pinky finger is broken at his growth plate, and we are being referred to a pediatric orthopedic specialist.
They warned me about my son playing any hand sports…like basketball and that he should be careful with other sports, too. They told me I’d have to wait to speak to the specialist to see what he can and can’t do. I am holding my breath and am totally scared that I will be told to pull him from sports camp. That would be tragic! Yikes!
If any of you are reading this and have had similar experiences with your children, please chime in and let me know what happened. I’d really like to get some input.
My song of the day is Mister Mister’s “Broken Wings,” because that is what I am feeling like today. My kid was beginning to spread his wings, and now they are broken. So sad! We’re off to sports camp day #2, and for now, he’ll just do his best to avoid using his hand. Wish us luck!
