When my husband goes out of town, I end up taking my kids to see a lot of movies and spend considerable amounts of time walking through the mall. Yesterday was one of those days: Guardians of the Galaxy, Old Navy & the Children’s Place and dinner in the food court. These are the signs of a pulling-your-hair-out-of-your-head temporarily single parent.
What’s funny about all of this is that we ran into one of my daughter’s classmates and her mother last night, and we were talking all about our lives on such occasions. It ends up, she’s got the same routine when her husband’s out of town, too….movie, shopping and food court.
I feel like the stores in the mall should all run an ad campaign for their winter coats or blankets: “Husband out of town? We’ve got ya covered!”
I wonder how men handle it when their wives go out of town. Is it the same routine? If not, they should follow the ladies’ lead, because this routine works well and is fun for all.
Well….the work/school week is almost here, and there will be less time for movies and the mall, but it certainly is a fun reprieve when the hubby’s away.
Speaking of Fun, my song of the day is by the band Fun. I love their song “Carry On,” which works perfectly for this moment. I have found a way to “Carry On” when my better half is only half way through his vacation.
