Celebrating 2014: Where This Once Shiny New Year Began -

Posted on the 01 December 2014 by Juliejordanscott @juliejordanscot

The folks at ProjectReverb are curious to know, "Where did you start 2014?"

2014 celebration

I started this year - quite literally - in Bakersfield, California. Up before sunrise, I drove to the mouth of the canyon and took photos. The reason I know this without question is I documented it. I started the year as a documentarian. This is who I am, it is what I do.

Here are a couple telling snippets from January:

I am not one of those people who can distill "who I am" or "what I do" into a nicely wrapped, carefully coifed package. I prefer my multi-hyphenated, free spirited life to a life in a box marked "profession" or "sports team fan"  or "someone-else's-something-or-other."

I am at the point in my creative life it is best to go simply to go and allow the process to scoop up the moment and pop out whatever wants to be born rather than me forcing something into fruition.

I had some heart stretching experiences this year.

I had some profoundly grounding moments.

I am continuing to grow and expand my horizons and simultaneously laser into what I know is most important.

I plan to use Reverb as a means to reflect and solidify my foundation for 2015 and the years to come.

I am scared, I am exhilarated and all those fun words I could stack up here. Instead, I want to continue moving along getting some small niblets checked off my list of gotta-do's-even-if-I-don't-feel-like-its!

I have been reflecting on what I aim to bring-to-live in 2015 for a few weeks. I must confess - I am inspired by what is coming.

Happy December for now - and in 31 days: the bright shiny new year will be smiling at us, brightly.

How did your heart stretch this year?

What do you look forward to both in December and in the days to come beyond 2014?

Five years ago what is now Reverb (in several forms) was started by a woman who seemed to want to engage in her own year review and wanted to include others. I leaped in, happy at the chance. That woman opted out a couple years later (if memory serves me) and a part of her legacy is a bunch of people still gather to write at the end of one year before the next begins. Pretty cool! I'll be "reverbing" in a variety of forms this year. Play along! Look on Twitter under #Reverb14 or visit the link up at the header of this post. Write about life and meet some very cool people!
