When I went to Amsterdam yesterday to go to a play, it was evident that something was completely amiss. Debris everwhere; it looked like a giant pigsty at Amsterdam Central Station. Apparently cleaners were on strike due to cuts. In the free newspaper in the train (Spits) trade union director Mr. Meyer said, “I won’t put my apple on the table in front of me [in the train], because the cleaning cloth could have been used to clean the toilet with.” the cleaners demand payment on sick days, salary increase and lower pressure on the job.
