Is it cheating to have dreamed of a scenario like this so my idea is somewhat hatched even before I sit at the keyboard to write?
I am going to create a Word-Love Party Bus which will travel around the country with my creative friends and I inside. We will do workshops, art shows, etc all over the country stopping for special events at the homes of women writers, artists and famous historical women as well. Naturally, the itinerary is still in a sort of vaguely constructed web of ideas at this point.
The thing is, I love going on what I call “Poetic Pilgrimages” and after my last jaunt to the Washington, DC area I knew it would just be a matter of time until I made this vague construction into a vehicle full of really cool women who also want to create and travel and tell stories and simply enjoy the sites and one another’s company.
And now, because I love getting extra credit, here are some of the places we would go. All the Pins are my own.
No writing trip honoring writers would be complete without visiting Concord, Massachusetts. This photo/pin shows one of the paths along Walden Pond. Great for hiking, sketching, lying in the sun - gathering ideas.
Emily Dickinson's home in Amherst, Massachusetts is astounding. The tour guys are fabulous and it truly is a must see home for anyone who loves poetry (or in my opinion anyone at all!)
I visited Steepletop in Austerlitz, New York this Spring. Until then, the best tour I had been on was the Emily Dickinson home tour. When I stumbled into the home of Edna St. Vincent Millay it was almost like coming home.
I could blather on and on about the party bus and all teh destinations, but I would rather be a minimalist for now. It just sounds so fun to do... wandering over the countryside with a band of beloved friends as together, we understand new lines of our own words, the words of others and taste the satisfaction of a supportive community,
