Cottage Etc.

Posted on the 06 June 2012 by Paige
On Friday me, Mom, Dad, Sister and Nana went to the cottage. We didn't get there until after 8pm. Then we went to bed. On Saturday we went to Midland and we went shopping at The Salvation Army Thrift Store, Rona, The Real Canadian Superstore and a store called Team Red's Thrift Store. I took one of their business cards. It looks like they made them themselves because they have a perforated edge and are not very fancy. At the Salvation Army I bought a porcelain figure of a unicorn, a spork and a book. At Red's a bought a pair of blue Gap shorts, the old game Careers by the same company that makes Monopoly and four book. At Rona everyone went in because they give out free popcorn. We bought a NO TRESPASSING sign, a DANGER sign and a Guard Dog On Duty sign. Dad's paranoid because someone broke into the neighbors cottage in the winter and vandalized it. They were caught though. There is also this crazy guy who wants my dad to pay him for clearing leaves from the cottage in March when we weren't there. We never hired him but he claims we called him and did. On Sunday Mom and Dad went to take their Canadian Firearms Safety Course for fun because dad wanted to and mom just did it with him. My sister and I stayed with Nana and we played games and did puzzles and art. We also took the dogs for a walk to the marina and Josie rolled in dead bird and poo. We had to throw a stick in the lake to get her to wash the poo off. Then we hosed her in the back yard with dog shampoo when we got back. We didn't really want to touch her though and had to bribe her to stay with canned dog food.
When we got home on Monday Lee was sick. Lee seems a bit better today but he's still a dead man walking. Please pray for my rat Lee (his full name is Friend-Lee) who seems to have pneumonia. He's very kind and smart and has good leadership skills. He was very healthy until a couple days ago. He's also very cute and brave and has good survival skills. My aunt was looking after the rats for two days while we were at the cottage and failed to notice that he had lost half his body weight! We had to hand feed him all his favorite stuff to get his strength back up and help him rehydrate when we got home. He is also now taking two different antibiotics. We might have to give him fluids under the skin tonight.
I think I have gotten a lot more muscle in my legs since horseback riding. There is not as much fat on them and you can feel the calve muscles. Today we tried trotting without stirrups and it was really hard. I couldn't post fast enough so I had to try to sit trot. Sit trotting is when you use you legs to hold yourself steady so you don't bounce all over the place while the horse is trotting. I need to do some upper body strengthening so I don't get lopsided. At the side of the arena was a birds egg. We didn't know what to do with it so we just moved it where the horses wouldn't step on it. Mom just said if the egg gets cold it dies so it's probably dead anyway. The teacher just said yeah move it out of the way. I thought about calling the Toronto Wildlife Center but then I realized I didn't have a phone or their phone number.
