I picked up my son from school yesterday, and he dragged me back into his classroom. ”Mommy, I need to show you my favorite books.” He led me over to his book center, and there was one bin specifically for the “Geronimo Stilton” series. For those of you who don’t know “Geronimo Stilton,” they are these darling “young readers” books about a mouse (Geronimo) who lives in “Mouse City” and is a reporter from the local newspaper. The books originated in Italy and have been translated into 35 languages. I don’t have too much experience with “Geronimo Stilton,” as I think I only read one of the books with my daughter.
One thing I have learned as a parent though is that any time your kid expresses interest in anything educational at all, you need to jump all over it. So, we headed to Barnes & Nobles last night and bought the first three “Geronimo” books in the series. He combed through every page of each of the three chapter books looking with longing at the small pictures that are interwoven throughout the stories. I can just tell that his is dying to start reading them. He’ll have to wait though. He just checked out an “Indiana Jones” book from the library, and we’re smack dab in the middle of “Diary of a Wimpy Kid,” too. How great that he is looking forward to literature. That just warms this book worm’s heart to no end! For an energetic kid who can’t sit still for too long, he certainly does love to hear stories. I love that!
As I am thrilled to jump into the adventures of “Geronimo” with my son, I began looking for a perfect song of the day that would express the love of reading. Besides “Paperback Writer” by the Beatles, which I’ve already used as a song of the day, there was nothing jumping out in my head. So, I began Google searching and found the funniest thing! It seems there is a Youtube series called “Epic Rap Battles of History,” and I found one between Dr. Seuss & Shakespeare. This is just literary craziness, but I couldn’t help but laugh out loud as I watched. Click HERE to watch the rap battle between these two literary giants, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Happy long Labor Day weekend for everyone! Hope you all have a good book to enjoy over the next couple of days off. Have fun y’all!
