End..

You could see her frantic movements - sweeping the room clumsily, trying on a hundred different outfits and asking for opinions, fixing the rice lights and checking every ten minutes to see if they were still working fine. She liked him a lot. That was a little too apparent. And he was going away. The silence of the room was broken by a sudden clap of thunder outside. Slowly, gray clouds spread themselves open, wider, and soft rain began to fall. It started quietly and gently, caressing the warm air erotically, licking at the sides of buildings, sucking at the soft grass, kissing all the dark corners of the night. It was a hot rain, wanton and sensuous, sliding down slowly, slowly, until the tempo began to increase and it changed to a driving, pounding storm, fierce and demanding, an orgiastic beat in a steady, savage rhythm, plunging down harder, moving faster until it finally exploded in a burst of thunder. Suddenly, as quickly as it had started, it was over. That moment when the rains stopped, reminded her of days as a child. The girls at her play school had dolls and toys, she didn’t. And some of them were willing to share them with her, but she was painfully aware that nothing belonged to her.Life or Fate, whatever people wished to call it, had laid out a path for them where there were no intersections. This was the last time she would see him
She knew that by the end of the evening, she would have to say the words and accept the fact that she’d been running away from so far. The goodbye had to be perfect.
The bell rang. Spraying on some perfume, she gulped down the glass of whiskey. This was it, she told herself. She opened the door to find a note stuck to the door. He couldn’t do it. It was the imperfect goodbye that never did happen. Just another chapter of her life without a happy ending. And in this case, an end without the ending. Also on: Chaai, Paani, etc.'s new URL End..
