Falmouth Road Race

Posted on the 13 August 2012 by Mattie @comfyconfident

Hi! I am so sorry I have not been updating much; work and life have been crazy busy. I plan to slowly get back into it. Maybe I will start posting 2 – 3 times a week and then build on that!  How does that sound?

I have some running races coming up which is super exciting! Yesterday I did the Falmouth Road Race with some friends. I have not been running a ton so I was a little nervous going in, but set a goal of running an 8 minute pace which felt a little ambitious to be honest. Especially when I woke up Sunday morning and all I saw were rain drops on the skylight window. My first thought was, “welp guess I am not going to run 7 miles today.” But, I was forced up and out of bed. We caught the bus and rode to the start in the pouring rain. By the time, we found our corrals and lined up to race the rain had subsided but the humidity kicked in. It was so hot running, my head felt like it was going to explode.

The race had over 12000 runners entered; I have never been a part of something so big. The entire time I was dodging and weaving around runners. I was nervous my time would be super slow because I was stuck behind people but  I think it actually made the race go by so much faster and made me run harder when I had open space. I ended up running a good race especially for not training much at all. I finished with an average pace of 7:53!

I really pushed myself the last mile because I usually just cruise to the finish, so by the end of the race, I was exhausted. I waited in the finish for Vinnie and then we walked to the sample tents and ate some food.

Yasso Frozen Yogurt was a platinum sponsor of the event and let me tell you, they are delicious treats!! I have heard of them and wanted to try them for a while, so I took full advantage of the free samples. I tried one of every flavor! They were delicious; by far my favorite ‘healthy’ dessert/snack. I was expecting the Raspberry flavor to be my favorite, but turns out it was my least favorite. I loved the Strawberry and Blueberry!

Only 70 calories and 6 grams of protein! I am definietly going to stock up on them now!

After the race, we went back to our friends house, showered up, relaxed a little and then hit the road. It was a super fun race, and we are going to try to make it an annual tradition and get a lot more of our friends to join. I wish had more pictures to share but because of the rain everything was left at home. Next year I will show you more pics!

Question: Would you rather run in the rain or wicked humidity?
Whats the biggest race you have ever done?
