The Daily Relationship Grind

Brenda wrote the other day about marriage and sex and it got me to thinking.  After being married a while do you think it would have worked out better with someone from the past? Could it be because you never went through the “daily grind” with that person? The one you have been married to is the person you live with through thick and thin. It may not be like the movies you see portraying the happily ever after love.
I recently saw a movie called One Day. It’s about a couple that met when they were young. They had an intimate brief romance and remained friends throughout the years. But he married someone else – and she then lived with someone else a long time. Years later he divorced and they got back together. It was like a long lost love fairytale. It all ended very sad when she died at the end. It really made me cry. But is it always sweeter because they knew each other so young and hooked up later? Or because they never had that long married life that had no chance to get dull through the daily grind?
I also know a true story like that. My mother-in law. Her husband died when she was around 74 and she got in touch with her long lost boyfriend from her teenage years. She had known his wife died years earlier. What was ironic was that he was the grandfather of a co-worker of mine. The day my co-worker got a call from him at work and said:  “Who is Ruth?” And I overhead it and I asked if her grandfather was “curly?” Sure enough it was! They ended up dating until he died within that year. Very sad too.   Both are gone now and I often wonder how that would have worked out if they stayed together when he entered the military as a teenager. Life would sure have been different.
Life sure can be strange. You think you’ll be with someone forever and it doesn’t work out. Years later, wonder, why, could it ever?

Do you think there is a reason it did not work out the first time? Or could it really work out in the end? Or does every relationship get into the Daily Grind?
