Half Marathon Training

Posted on the 07 June 2012 by Mattie @comfyconfident

My life is hectic, but whose isn’t. I just started my new job this week and have been burning the candle on both ends.  I am slowly starting to adjust to my new routine and schedule. It requires early mornings, long days and lazy nights.

My office is only 14 miles away but it takes an hour each way…. Brutal. It drives me crazy. I HAVE TO WORK OUT IN THE MORNING, or else I will not do it at all but this makes my mornings super rushed because I always try to sleep as long as possible and also fit in my workout.

This week I have been combining my Tone It Up plan with the first week of my half marathon schedule for the Virginia Beach  Rock N Roll Half Marathon. I love the Bootycall the Tone It Up trainers suggest! It gets me up and going and I am always so much more awake and ready for the day afterwards.

Half Marathon Training

My half marathon plan has me doing relatively light mileage during the week.  Tuesday I ran 3 miles, Wednesday I did a tempo workout at 5 x 400 meters at 5k pace. 400 meters  is ¼ of a mile, so to complete this run I ran 0.25 segments on the treadmill at my ‘5k’ pace.

I have not been eating as clean and disciplined as I would like but I am not beating myself up. The thing that does bother me is I always say, “tomorrow I will eat better.” My biggest struggle is I need to plan and pack my food. This weekend, I am going to plan out my meals for the workweek and go shopping to get all my supplies. I find that when I eat well I feel so much lighter and more confident. It is important for me to become more consistent with my eating and diet. I try and try, but can never fully commit. With this new job, and new routine, I am going to focus on diet and nutrition.

How do you maintain your diet and eating plan during the workweek?
