Hunger Games, #1100

One thing about motherhood that I was never told before I had kids was about how completely out of touch with pop culture I would become.  Gone are the days when I could casually absorb myself in senseless TV sitcoms, spontaneously head to the cinema for a popcorn & featured film or lounge around listening to music from the latest bands.

Even finding an evening to rent a movie has become a tedious task, because if my husband and I want to watch anything of substance, it usually has to happen after the kids are tucked into bed for the night.  There have been times where we’ve begun to watch something, and those little pittered pattered feet come barreling down the hall into our room shouting, “Mom!  I had a scary dream!”  The flick is paused mid-movie never to be returned to again.  Oh well…so it goes.

Last night, however, was one of those rare nights when we caught up with the rest of the world and watched some mainstream mayhem.  It’s no wonder that “The Hunger Games” franchise has taken the world by storm.  Wow!  What a nail-biting, heart-thumping 2 hours of complete absorption.  I am overwhelmed at the possibility of a “Hunger Games”-esque concept and even still a little freaked out about it today.  Woh – mind blown and with strong attempts to shake that out of my head!

Perhaps being blind to the world’s fascinations is actually a good thing.  Regardless, I can’t wait to watch “the Hunger Games 2″ on the next rare movie night.  For that reason, my song is Lordes’ “Hunger Games” song, which I think is called “Yellow Flicker Beat.”  Of course, I’ve never even heard of the song until right before writing this blog.  Again, it’s me just trying to catch up with the rest of the world.
