The other soccer moms who are smart enough to bring chairs and don’t need coffee.
I have a yucky cold that’s not making me too sick, but it’s annoying. Certainly, the last thing in the world I felt like doing was sitting at 9:00 am in 45 degree weather on dew-covered grass at my son’s soccer game. Believe me, I love my son being in soccer. It is so good for him, and I know he looks forward to every practice and every game. Being a soccer Mom with a cold plainly sucks though. Thank goodness for to-go mugs of steamy coffee. It got me through that game, and I felt shocked that I was the only parent there sipping away. How could they all be so bright-eyed and bushy tailed cheering on their kiddos without it? I want their secret.
Being a parent forces you time and time again to rise above your own needs and do what’s best for your children. If you would have told me when I was younger that I would do the things I do now for my kids, I would think I was listening to a horror flick. Being a parent forces you to reach within yourself to the sheer will that you didn’t know you were capable of. If you would have told me when I was younger that I would actually love doing everything I do for my kids, I would have thought I’d eventually end up in a mental institution.
Being a parent rocks, because it makes you a better person. It makes you selfless. It makes you strive to be a role model. There is no better job.
My song of the day today comes from the musical “Oliver.” ”I’d Do Anything” really does sum up every emotion I had at that soccer game yesterday morning. It is a perfect Mommy anthem. So, click HERE to go to Youtube to watch and listen to the classic movie scene from “Oliver,” and know that I’d do absolutely anything for either one of my children. And that’s the way it should be.
