I am appreciating a silly mundane little piece of perfection today. I’m sure it’s a boring detail of my life for most people, but I kind of love it. My husband and son’s barber is located right next door to my manicurist. Both accept walk ins, and so yesterday, the boys in my family got their hair cut, and my daughter and I got our little piggies polished.
Ladies finished first, because even though men in a barber shop think they’re so laid back, it is so not true. The nail salon is standard: spa pedicure seats, rows of polish hanging on the wall alongside pictures of fabulously manicured hands. The barber on the other hand is an afternoon event: fully stocked refrigerator of a variety of sodas, a Wii for the kids (and grown men), board games, magazines and even t-shirts for sale with their logos.
My daughter and I headed next door to meet up with the guys when we were finished. They had grins on their faces proud of the way they looked as they ogled in the mirror and meticulously examined for straight lines and hairs out of place. Such handsome dudes!
So…my point – men need beauty, too. It just comes in different packaging, and it completely helps that the manicurist is right next door.
My song of the day is from The Waitresses. “I Know What Boys Like” is a perfect way to sum up this sentiment. Don’t worry guys, we’ve got ya covered!
