The last couple of years, my Aunt and Uncle have sent me the most amazing surprise! I come home to a big white box on my doorstep with oranges blazing across the sides and big bold letters stating “Florida Citrus.” I tear open the box in delight to gaze upon whatever variety will stand before me. The oranges are displayed with their leaves attached, and barely a heartbeat has occurred before I tear one of those juicy gems open.
It is always the same, because Florida oranges are different than any of the oranges you could ever buy in the super market. The skins are harder and thinner, but what never ceases to amaze me is the juiciness of a Florida orange and the exemplary sugary sweetness. What is it about that region that can produce such amazing specimens? Florida is to oranges as Napa Valley is to wine.
So, this blog today is to suffice as a thank you to the one thing sweeter than Florida oranges – my wonderful Aunt and Uncle. I love them so much and wish to thank them over and over again for the happiest surprise. I certainly love those oranges (as the rest of my family does, too), so thanks a billion for this super duper treat!
My song of the day is the Beatles’ singing “I’ll Follow the Sun,” because Florida is the sunshine state after all, and I’ve been given a little bit of sunshine from those magical trees that grow all the way on the other side of the country ! Thank you sooooo much. I love you guys. xxxoo
