I’m not the best sleeper. Actually – I take that back. What I really meant to say is that I’m a great sleeper, but I never get enough sleep. There are just not enough hours in a day, and so I go to bed too late and wake up too early. On an average night, I sleep about 5 hours. My doctor has chewed me out about this, but nonetheless, I seem to function well in the world, and typically, I do not feel ridiculously tired. So up yours, doctor, my life usually works for me.
And then I question myself.
I had a long day yesterday – a good one (a REALLY good one, in fact), but it was one of those days when you have to push yourself. When my head hit the pillow at midnight, I think it only took a half of a breath to fall asleep. When I woke up, it was 10 hours later! Holy moly!!! Ten hours of sleep??!!?? I didn’t know I was even capable of it!.
Perhaps I rested so peacefully because both my kids had sleepovers, and I didn’t have to sleep with one eye open or have the “Mommy, I had a scary dream” interruptions. Or, perhaps my body was just trying to tell me something.
Weirdly though, I did not wake up refreshed. I’m having a headache that seems to be a result of too much sleep, and I feel fuzzy and off. It’s not a getting sick kind of a feeling. I’m just out of it.
This might seems like a boring topic for a blog post to many of you, but to me 10 hours of sleep is such a freak thing that I have to write about it and analyze it in order to sort it out in my head. That is why my song of the day is “I’m Only Sleeping” by the Beatles, because usually this is a nonchalant necessity for me, but today it is quite a topic of conversation. Hmmmm….
