I’m Turning Japanese, #674

Posted on the 04 May 2013 by Juliezaz1 @juliezaz1

My family has a funny once-a-month Friday night ritual.  On the first Friday evening of every month, I song lead for a preschool Shabbat service.  The service is over by 7:00, so I meet up with my family afterwards for what we like to call our “Shabbat sushi.”

“Shabbat sushi” is an unusual concept, because it is not exactly a traditional meal for this weekly holiday.  Jews typically eat chicken or brisket for Shabbat and certainly not non-Kosher shell fish.  As our sushi boat filled to the brim with yellow tail, spicey tuna roll, California roll, shrimp, eel and softshell crab roll is set down before us though, we gleefully wish each other a “Shabbat shalom.”  You have your Manischewitz wine, and we have our iced green tea.  All is good…especially because we are together.  That’s what Shabbat is all about anyway.

My song of the day is an 80′s Flashback by the Vapors.  ”I’m Turning Japanese” is such a great song and one that I haven’t thought about in a long time.  Turn up your speakers and party on!  Click HERE to hear it.  Shabbat Shalom y’all!
