There are no words to express what kind of movie Killing Them Softly actually is.
Jackie Cogan (Brad Pitt) shoots Markie Trattman (Ray Liotta) in Killing Them Softly (2012).
It starts off with two weirdos – one American and one Australian – who are going to crash and rob a card game for a guy they call Squirrel. From the get-go, you know the Australian is the stupid one who is going to ruin everything; too predictable.
Jackie (Brad Pitt) is the guy who is hired to solve the mess and confessing to Driver (the mob’s spokesman) that he always kills his victims from a distance so that he doesn’t need to hear them cry, beg, or scream for their mothers. Hence the title of the movie.
There are some great shots in there and the acting was good, but that’s about it. There’s no character development, it’s a bit heavy on the dialogue, and absolutely nothing happens except a beating and a murder. I wondered if they only put the character of Mickey in the movie just to have James Gandolfini in it. I wrote about it during the Cannes Film Festival last year where it was part of their official selection.
