Making a Difference

Posted on the 23 February 2012 by Mattie @comfyconfident

Something about this video makes me smile big and my heart flutter! Maybe it is Willie Nelson singing one of my favorite Coldplay songs, or maybe it is the message of the video, either way it’s so good! WATCH!

I originally saw this video on Jenn’s blog and I was completely moved. I have written about the movie, Food Inc, in the past and I frequently think about where food comes from, but I hate to admit it I rarely actually make a change in my eating behavior. I admire company’s who are progressive and forward looking in their business model. Striving to better their company and their consumers without a lot of incentive is commendable. Chipotle is making “food with integrity” by being committed to “finding the very best ingredients raised with respect for the animals, the environment and the farmers.” [source] Pretty cool, right!?

After reading about Chipotle and how they are working to be more sustainable and green, I googled a couple other companies doing the same thing. Being a New Hampshire-ite I was drawn to Stonyfield yogurt and may of found one of the funniest things I have seen in a while!

The (now former) CE-Yo of Stonyfield, Gary Hirshberg, made this hilarious video about their company, eating organic, and the need to be more sustainable. He raps about the farming and food industry and all their bad practices… let me say this again – he raps… he doesn’t just talk to the camera!

I was so impressed after watching this, I continued looking around the Stonyfield website to learn more and found this…a comparable video made by the Honest Tea CEO!

I don’t know why, but these videos make me so happy! They are such a fun, unique way to connect with the every day consumer and make us remember that it is just real people, trying to make a difference behind each company.

Sorry for so many videos but I thought they were great and really wanted to share!

Workout
Yesterday for my workout I woke up early and yoga at 3 Bridges Yoga. I really enjoy going to this studio, it’s so clean and every one is so welcoming! The studio is based on principles of vinyasa yoga, meaning breath linked with movement, and incorporate elements from other yoga traditions. This is my favorite type of yoga because you are always moving through the poses and it’s not so much focused on meditation and breathing.

After work, I did a leg workout at home from Cassey.  She makes great workouts you can do anytime, anywhere and they always burn!

Making a Difference

Question:
What are some of your favorite sustainable companies?
What do you think of the CEO’s making themselves out to be goofy and (way) less professional?
