A few weeks ago, my son was sick with a big 103 degree fever. We had tickets during that time to see a show at Tucson’s delightful Gaslight Theatre, but had to cancel our evening as a result of his illness. The people at the Gaslight were so incredibly nice to us and gave us credit for the tickets to use for another show.
For those of you who don’t know about the Gaslight Theatre, it is a long-standing Tucson tradition. (Established in 1977) The shows at the theater are kitschy little musicals with audience participation and super funny humor. Anyone attending a Gaslight performance is guaranteed a good time and will walk away smiling and full of energy.
Attached to the little 236-seat theater is Little Anthony’s Diner….a classic 50′s soda shop that is a great family restaurant boasting some of the best pizza in town. You can even order food during the show, as the Gaslight Theatre’s seating is cabaret style.
Tickets for all Gaslight shows sell out weeks ahead of time, so it is important to plan ahead if you want to attend a performance. Last night, my family was spontaneous and headed to Little Anthony’s Diner with my in from out-of-town mother-in-law. We planned to eat dinner there, but my husband said on a whim, “Let’s see if there are tickets available to the show.” We were in luck! A group had not shown up, and we were ushered to excellent seats smack dab in the middle of the theater. Awesome!!!! It was such a fun night.
The show last night was the annual holiday show called “A Smalltown Christmas.” It was darling complete with Santa Claus coming through the audience and passing out candy. The show ended with the cast singing holiday songs wearing Hawaiian Luau attire, and so to keep in the theme of good feeling from last night, my song of the day today is Bing Crosby’s “Mele Kalikimaka.” Click HERE to listen to this fun Christmas classic as we all entire into a great holiday season ahead. Happy holidays everyone!!!
