Message from The Tucson Songstress: Basic Beat Egg Shaker Recall

Posted on the 28 March 2013 by Juliezaz1 @juliezaz1

Hello Tucson Songstress Friends!

Today I learned about a recall on Basic Beat egg shakers.  These egg shakers are the shakers I recommend in my Top 10 Tuesday music activities, and therefore, I feel it is the responsible thing to do to bring the recall to your attention.  Here is a picture of what they look like:

BasicBeat Eggs

As my mother has always said, “Safety first!”  Here are the recall details from West Music, the manufacturers of Basic Beat egg shakers:

Recall Details

Units: About 6,500

Description: These recalled egg-shaker toy instruments are plastic, egg-shaped instruments sold in five colors: yellow, green, blue, red and purple. The toy instruments are about the size of small eggs and have a “Basic Beat” label printed on the front of the product.  The product is marked for children ages 3 years and older but West Music is concerned with the possibility of the egg being used by or near a younger child.  The toy instruments have Lot Number 0E0212 located on the bottom of the roundest part of the egg.

Incidents/Injuries: West Music has received three reports of ends popping off, with no injuries reported.
Remedy: Consumers should immediately take the recalled egg shaker toy instruments away from young children and contact West Music for a free replacement product.

Sold at:  West Music stores, West Music Catalog, Westmusic.comAmazon.com and at West Music booths at summer workshops from July 2012 through October 2012 for about $1.50 each.
Manufacturer:
Bongo Logic Development LTD, of Hong Kong
Manufactured in:
China

Due to the ends popping, it is said that the recalled eggs are deemed a “choking hazard.”  West Music will send you a new set if you return the egg shakers to them.  Here is the consumer contact information:

Consumer Contact: West Music at (800) 397-9378 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. CT Monday through Friday, e-mail at [email protected] or online at www.westmusic.com and click on Help & FAQs and Recalls for more information.

So….please return your shakers if they are the recalled ones, and together, we will continue to make music safely!

Best regards,

The Tucson Songstress
