My kids want so badly to be independent.  They want to do what they want to do and when they want to do it.  In their own little ways, they beg me for their freedom regularly.  Really though, despite their efforts – they are still just children.

I know this because at 2:30 in the morning, they still crawl into bed with me when they have a scary dream or come to me immediately for comfort when they get an “Owie.”

I am the first person they go to when there are tears or nerves or absolutely anything that is different from normal.  How lucky they are to always be able to run to Mommy.

It’s hard to give them a balance of independence and prevent them from growing up too fast at the same time.  Parenting is a tough job and a constant challenge, and with all that I do in a day, it’s still my favorite job.
