Music, #1195

Posted on the 07 July 2015 by Juliezaz1 @juliezaz1

Sometimes I think I got into the wrong business.  I’ll be watching a movie and inherently just know when a song is all wrong for a scene.  Perhaps I should have been a music supervisor for the movies or maybe even a DJ.  When music is off, I know it, and vice versa, when it’s right, man, I’m feeling it.

So the other night, on the 4th of July, I tuned in to the local radio station, 94.9 Mix FM to listen to the live simulcast that was to be played along with the city’s fireworks show.  Holy moly – they needed me for that set list!  I’m not trying to be conceited, but this was an important playlist.

First off – it is a total faux pas to play a song in the set list only to play it again a few songs later as the finale song.  Katy Perry’s “Fireworks”  is perfect for a fireworks program – but really…played twice?  Second, sorry Mix FM DJs – always go with a classic.  Your mix should have ended on “Stars and Stripes Forever.”  Put pop music aside for a moment, because this was in celebration of America’s birthday.  Katy Perry just doesn’t have “America” written into that song.  How about replacing one of the Katy plays with Neil Diamond’s “America.”  Your mix needed him!

Finally – this is the biggie.  I was on the North side of town watching the A-Mountain fireworks.  The radio show had about a 30 second delay, and we watched the finale to Phil Collin’s “Sussudio,” which in my opinion was a total let down.  Knowing that your listeners may have a delay, please plan for that.  An extra song or two just to be sure would have been nice and totally apropos considering the whole night’s broadcast could have been dedicated to suitable July 4th music.

So there is my rant.  Really 94.9, I’ll give you free consultation next year, and as the Tucson Songstress, will blog all about the show and push it to my readers.  Contact me!

My song of the day is from Madonna, because “music makes the people come together.  Hey Mr. DJ, put your record on.  I want to dance with my baby!”
