Yes folks, it's playlist time and these are heartbreak or break-up songs that I've fished out from my own phone's list! Now there are tons, and I mean tons of songs out there dealing with this theme and you probably have your own list in mind. So I'm sharing mine, together with some "worth remembering" lines. Some of them are old, mostly old actually, since I'm not quiet "in" with the current mainstream music. These songs, some of them convey having happily moved on, some say they're just stuck, and some are bitter. But I find them all beautiful. A living proof that something not artistically anemic can come out of the pain. And a few Grammy's and millions of album sales won't hurt also.So here it is. And take note:
Consume......and in random order: :)
-Nothing by The Script
You know you've found a great heartbreak song when a lovely riff comes in and the first lines say:
" Am I better off dead, Am I better off a quitterThey say I'm better off now, Than I ever was with her."And the rest of the song just gives us vivid details about this guy's struggles to get over her. He's had quiet too much to drink and drunkdials to tell her that he's still inlove only to hear "nothing" from the other line. He also tries to do that face to face with her but still there's nothing and no one waiting for him. Ouch much!
-You and I Both by Jason Mraz
This one I find quiet full of nostalgia and longing for the past. You and I both loved; the magic that was you and me. That feeling of having had and having given the greatest love that others can only read of and dream of. Oh well, bet it hurts bad to have lost it too. Would remind you of a highschool love whom you thought was the one.
"And it's okay, if you had to go awayJust remember the telephone, Well they're workin' it both waysBut if I never ever hear them ring, If nothing else I'll think the bells insideFinally found you someone else and that's okay, 'Cause I'll remember everything you sang."
-Since U Been Gone by Kelly Clarkson
Enough of the mopey songs now, shall we? What better way for a girl to declare her new-found independence than by screaming it out in this powerful anthem. Take it as you hear it. :)
"You had your chance you blew it, Out of sight, Out of mindShut your mouth I just can't take it, Again and again and again"If only she wasn't so angry in this next song...
-Behind These Hazel Eyes by Kelly Clarkson
This one conveys being strong despite being broken up inside. It's also full of remorse if I may add.
And powerful vocals again to blow us all away."Here I am once again, I'm torn into piecesCan't deny it, can't pretend, Just thought you were the oneBroken up, deep insideBut you won't get to see the tears I cryBehind these hazel eyes."
-I Hate This Part by The Pussycat Dolls
Please don't be surprised that this one made it to the cut. It's one of my best-loved if not the best-loved PCD song. What part do you hate really? It's when you both realize that you're holding on to a pointless relationship; no more of that sweetness, just the undeniable coldness towards each other, waiting on who would pull the trigger, everything slipping through your fingers. Hurts more than the breakup itself, why not end it and start moving on? Yes, Nicole repeats it for the nth time you just have to hear: I gotta do it. I hate this part but I gotta do it.
"I know you'll ask me to hold onAnd carry on like nothing's wrongBut there is no more time for lies'Cause I see sunset in your eyes."
-Oughta Know by Alanis MorisetteOh Oh! If I must do the whole shebang, this song has got to be part of the list. It's fun to sing but it's sarcasm at its best. I don't know why women were created to be pathologically full of contradictions. We want to forget and at the same time not forget."And I'm here to remind you, Of the mess you left when you went awayIt's not fair to deny me, Of the cross I bear that you gave to meYou, you, you oughta know"
-White Flag by DidoWhy must Dido have a haunting voice? Even worse, why must she sing such a beautiful haunting song? This one deals with pretending to have moved on but in truth, still in love. Thus the "white flag" title. "There will be no white flag above my door. I'm in love and always will be.""And when we meet, 'cause I'm sure we willAll that was there, will it be there stillI'll let it pass and hold my tongueAnd you will think that I've moved on."
-Everytime by Britney/Back to December by Taylor Swift...would have to be tied here due to the same sentiment of having lost the love of their lives due to their own doing. B says: "Without my wings, I feel so small" and "I may have made it rain, please forgive me."T says: "It turns out freedom ain't nothing but missing you, Wishing I realized what I had when you were mine."
-Thinking of You by Katy PerryAnd this last one deals with having found a new love but still missing (and loving) the previous one. Tragic, ayt?!"You said move on, where do I go?I guess second best is all I will know."
So, I guess that rounds up the list of my all-time favorite breakup/heartbreak songs. Nothing fancy, ayt?! I hope you found some of the songs cool. These are actually stuff I love listening to even when I'm not going through a heartache. It makes good reference for what you wouldn't wanna be in. :) Post breakup is the best time to contemplate; about yourself, about the relationship and how it ended. It allows you to get to know yourself better. So, after moping and singing all the sad songs, you have to get back up and be happier. So, it's your turn. Care to share your most favorite b-up songs?!
