I keep the phone,
Trying to evaluate my feelings,
The news was devastating,
Or so I thought.
My ex was getting married,
I thought it wouldn't matter,
But it did, even after so many years.
I wanted to cry,
But the tears didn’t come,
I wanted to shout,
But my voice didn’t support.
Hell, no words came out of me,
Just flashes of my past,
Each and every memory.
True, they had stopped hurting,
Me anymore,
But I still couldn’t understand,
How I needed to react.
I didn’t want to talk to family or friends,
I couldn’t bear sympathy or any advice.
I never realized how my past would catch me.
Or how I would succumb to it,
I will give it a month or two,
And then this too shall stop hurting,
Or so I hope.
