Never Can Say Goodbye, #987

Posted on the 08 June 2014 by Juliezaz1 @juliezaz1

Packing up your kid up for overnight summer camp is a Herculean effort.  We are about to send our daughter off for 3 weeks, and I have spent the last several days buying bug spray and shampoo and stationary and toothpaste  and all of the other details that a trip away from home would entail.

It all boils down to 6 pairs of shorts, 10 t-shirts, 4 pairs of long pants, PJs, undies, bathing suits, socks and every item on the camp packing list labeled with her name preventing each item finding their way into lost in found.  (Which I’m sure will happen, because it is inevitable!)

This is what 3 weeks looks like:

DuffleBag

And that doesn’t even include the bag which holds her sleeping bag, pillow and sheets or her backpack for the bus.

She is off on an adventure, and I am already getting teary just at the thought.  Last year I went with her for the 1st leg of her journey, but this summer, she is an expert.  We will say goodbye at the bus tomorrow morning, and I won’t see her again until I pick her up in 3 weeks.

It is rough saying goodbye to your child, and I am almost sick with the thought of being without her for so long.

My song of the day today is from the Jackson 5.  “Never Can Say Goodbye” really describes how I’m feeling, because goodbyes are the hardest thing ever!  So, as I gather my strength for this dreaded moment, I must tell you all — I have never been more thrilled for her.  Enjoy every moment, sweet girl, because there is nothing better than camp.  I can’t wait to see you in 3 weeks.  Go spread your wings and fly!
