Eleven years ago today, I was driving to the hospital at 5:00 in the morning, and there was a brilliant full moon that followed us the whole way there. It was stunning, and my husband and I noted that it was the perfect way to mark our new adventure of becoming parents.
We were on our way to the hospital for the birth of our daughter, and as I was wheeled into the operating room for a C-section, I was completely petrified. Though I was numb from the waist down and there was a sheet hanging blocking my view from anything happening to me, I asked my husband to talk to me about anything other than what was happening. I wanted it far away from my mind. He brought my thoughts to the moon - our moon - the guiding light that was taking us on a journey that would change our lives forever. Before I knew it, a perfect and beautiful baby was being placed in my arms, and I was officially a mother.
It only seems apropos that on the eve of her 11th birthday, we were reminded of that moon, a spectacular super moon with an eclipse bringing her into the next year of her life. It was once again a moon that stopped us in our tracks and one that we will always remember.
Birthday party now behind us, we are celebrating the most beautiful shining light of them all - our daughter who lights up any moment, day, year and even lifetime. She is as magical as any moon could be, and even the rarest moon pales in comparison to her beauty. As we begin her 11th year, there is a new moon on this Monday that cleans the slate for the year ahead, but we know, no moon could be as brilliant as her. Happy birthday baby!
