Nirbhaya and Others Who Dared

Posted on the 24 November 2014 by Shruti2910
In the middle of 'Why we need feminism' and 'Why we don't need feminism' is a woman. A woman who was just raped by her husband. A woman who just killed his erratic and abusive husband. A woman who found her life after her husband died. A woman who felt neglected. A woman who was cheated. A woman who loved someone's husband. A woman who fought for her rights.
Nirbhaya and Others Who Dared, is a story of all these women. Who exist in multiples. Around you and me. Coming from the pen of Kusum Chopra, Nirbhaya and others who dare is a collection of short stories of women who stood for themselves, fearlessly. These are stories of women who are not Bechari or sorts. Each story represents a woman we would have come across. In the mirror, in the neighborhood, in the school, in our mother..or on the road. Despite being different individuals, something about them binds them all together - Aversion to fear.
While some of them rediscovered themselves, some never took any shit. Some tolerated and broke down only to be picked up again into a stronger individual. What makes this book better than the counterparts is the fact that it focuses on the fighting back rather than suffering. It is a chronicle of power.
The stories tightly stick on the theme of fearlessness and valor, in a way that every reader can connect to it. Language is tight and crisp. Some stories do stretch a bit too long but all of them are super interesting to read.
In middle of several stories of woman's suffering getting some attention (finally), this book is a celebration of those who refused to suffer.
Do I recommend this? YES!  Nirbhaya and Others Who Dared Nirbhaya and Others Who Dared Nirbhaya and Others Who Dared Nirbhaya and Others Who Dared Nirbhaya and Others Who Dared Nirbhaya and Others Who Dared Nirbhaya and Others Who Dared
