Operation Lent: Day 1

Posted on the 13 February 2013 by Simplystephanieblog @StephanieKonar

While standing around pondering and watching Brian make the bed this morning, I asked him what I was going to “give up” for Lent. The problem was, I wasn’t really sure what I had left to give up.

For New Year’s I gave up fast food, and I haven’t had it since. I also gave up frivolous spending, trips to Starbucks, wasted time, and just about anything else that there was to give up. I don’t smoke, I hardly drink anymore and pop is a thing of the past. Honestly, other than maybe deleting my FaceBook account, I could not think of anything I loved enough that it would be a sacrifice to give up…until now. Complaining.

It’s true, I’m guilty (and those of you that know me personally know this has been a vice of late). One would think that complaining would not be a quality liked enough to keep, but if you think about it, many of us continue to keep it. If we didn’t like it, we wouldn’t continue to complain. It may feel good in the moment, but overtime it eats away at the mind, body and spirit and therefore I’m giving it up for Lent.

Starting now.

With God as my witness (and all of you).

For 40 days…and 40 nights…

So here we go, Operation Lent: Day 1. Update: throughly scared and generally convinced that failure is imminent. Seriously debating hosting a pool for how long I will make it- and then rigging it so that I can earn some cash out of it. Ashamed of greedy nature to even think of such an idea- but impressed with my entrepreneurial thought process at the same time. Now pondering how much greed goes into being an entrepreneur…never mind I’m going to yoga to get my “om” on.

Do you practice any traditions for Lent? Do you give up a vice?
