There is no question that I am a hard core U2 fan, and for those of you have followed my blog since the beginning, you know just how often I write about this amazing power band. In fact, I just counted. There have been 17 Tucson Songstress U2 blog posts, and today marks #18.
One thing about U2 is that it is impossible to understand their magnitude until you see them live in concert. The U2 guys are consummate performers, and the energy they exude onstage is just so up lifting. It’s not just their music that makes them famous. It’s how they carry their audience.
Last night on Jimmy Fallon’s debut show, the boys from Dublin lived up to their reputation. They performed their new release “Invisible” on top of the Rockefeller building in true U2 style and fanfare. To me, however, even with pulling out all of the stops on that performance, it was their other performance, in the Jimmy Fallon studio that stood out.
The boys performed their Grammy award winning “Ordinary Love” acoustically showing a side of U2 that we rarely see….U2 stripped down. We got to see the basics of U2…good guitar playing, good vocals, intense energy…everything music is supposed to be about.
After proving to the audience that U2 are truly successful first and foremost because of their music chops, Bono, urged Jimmy Fallon’s band, The Roots, to join in. With grins plastered to their faces, this performance simply rocked. You have got to check it out if you haven’t seen it already.
