Out with the Old, in with the New

Out with the Old, in with the NewOn Monday I did the beginning-of-the-year chats with the new teachers of my students of last year. To be able to round something off was a great feeling. When talking about my students, I noticed I had grown fond of them over the year(s). I hope with all my heart they will do great in the next step of their education and that they will continue to grow into wonderful human beings. I’ll definitely keep track of them.

On Tuesday I was faced with my new group. As I mentioned before, they’re older than I’m used to, and they’re also more ahead cognitively speaking. I was pleasantly surprised by their self-reliance and I hope they will keep demonstrating this trait.

I’m not a tall person (I’m 1.69m) and most of the boys in my group are really tall. If I talk to them while both parties are standing up, I have to look up. I don’t feel like they are towering over me, though.

This week will be filled with activities for us to get to know each other and to prepare the students for the coming school year. There’s a graffiti workshop, bowling and food. Even though I’m looking forward to those activities, I’ll be glad lessons start coming Monday. Everything will be back to normal…
