I want to write about those Buzzfeed quizzes that have suddenly become really popular on Facebook recently. I have to admit…they are an indulgent cheap thrill, and I have been known to take them in between quiet little pockets of my busy schedule. From these quizzes, I have learned the following about myself:
–In Biblical times, I would have been a cup-bearer.
–If I was a Disney Princess, I would be Ariel.
–When it comes to Barbara Streisand, I’m the “Funny Girl” Barbara
–In the “What Kind of Old Person Will You Be?” quiz, I found out I’ll be the “Crazy cat lady.”
And these are just the quizzes I remember. There have been many many more moments of brainless activity that have given me some silly insight about myself and that have somehow categorized me into a group people I have never thought of before.
The real reason I feel a need to write about this topic, however, is because my children suddenly got into taking these quizzes last night. They must have spent an hour at the computer, and truly, I don’t mind this kind of computer time. They were reading, and so I’ll take practiced reading skills at any moment I can get.
They were so hilarious about these quizzes though! “What kind of wedding dress should you buy?” “Which Friends star are you most like?” On and on and on they went. They couldn’t get enough of these quizzes. It was the cutest thing ever.
I wonder…what is it about these ridiculous quizzes that appeal to so many of us? Is there an underlying need of acceptance and belonging that prompts us to take them? Is it just fun to be silly? Does anyone actually see validity when they read the results? Whatever…Buzzfeed quizzes are here to stay, and I really appreciate those in-between-moments when I can question my life in a mindless way. Apparently, my kids feel the same.
So, my song of the day is from this quiz: “What is Your Theme Song?” Here are my results:
Pakelife by Blur
You’re living life, and totally rooted in reality. Yet you find the best in reality, and even find amusements in bad situations. Good for you! I wish I could do that. You take the mundane and make it sound great!
So here you all go…my “theme” song. And I’ve never even heard it before this moment.
