Pomodoro Techinque, WIAW & Thai Paradise

Do you struggle to stay on task?

Do you get frustrated with yourself because you can’t seem to focus on ANYTHING!?

Check it out, I have found a solution. It is called the Pomodoro Technique.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Choose a task to be accomplished
  2. Set a timer for 25 minutes
  3. Work on the task until the timer rings, then put a check on your sheet of paper
  4. Take a short break (5 minutes is OK)
  5. Every 4 Pomodoros take a longer break

“The Pomodoro Technique is a way to get the most out of time management. Turn time into a valuable ally to accomplish what we want to do and chart continuous improvement in the way we do it” [source]

The goals of the Pomordora Technique are many but my favorite include:

  • Alleviate anxiety (*always a good thing)
  • Enhance focus and concentration by cutting down on interruptions (*I need all the help I can get with this)
  • Boost motivation and keep it constant (*yup, that’d be nice)
  • Improve your work or study process (*that would be very helpful)

I applied the Pomordora Technique to my work today and it was fabulous. I really did work harder and was more focused resulting in me accomplishing a ton. I used this online stopwatch to keep track of my time. There is an alarm that goes off after every 25 minute period. A lot of the time, I felt like I was not ready for a break, but if I stood up, got some water and re-focused, the next 25 minutes went by just as fast with just as much productivity. I have also found it helpful to set the timer for the 5 minute break because sometimes I can get caught up on other websites, etc and I do not go back to the task at hand. The 5 minute break seems like a lot, but if you add up all the distractions you randomly have throughout the day, I bet it equals out.

The Pomodora Technique is a cool thing I found while distracted, browsing the internet! (hehe :) ) It worked for me, give it a try if you want! There is so much more info over on the website, check it out.

In other news, it is What I Ate Wednesday {Tuesday} – Thanks Jenn for organizing the party!

Today I literally ate an entire pack of gum. My jaw hurts now. I have an addiction. Today’s flavor of choice was Orbit CinnamintPomodoro Techinque, WIAW & Thai ParadiseOther than the gum, I ate a typical day full of oatmeal, apples and almonds, salad with quinoa, and egg whites.

Dinner was different. Vinnie had the brilliant idea of going out to dinner at a Thai restaurant we have talked about but never visited called Thai Paradise.

I started with a Tofu Vegetable soup in ‘clear’ broth. It was really good and light. The veggies were extremely al dante, but that’s how I like them!

For dinner I ordered the Jungle Curry with assorted vegetable, chili paste, squash, snow pea and lime leaves

I wish I ordered brown rice, but totally spaced.

Vinnie ordered the Red Curry with coconut milk, red curry paste, bamboo shoots, carrots, green peppers and fresh basil leaves.

Vinnie’s dinner was sweet and also addicting. I kept wanting to take another bite. Whereas my meal was refreshing but not as delicious.

I asked for a to-go bag early in the meal to reduce my uncontrollable need to finish my entire meal, every time. It worked. I have a perfect little lunch for tomorrow!

The meal was very good, but I think the thing to do at Thai Paradise is call in a to-go order. Multiple people came in to pick up their orders while we were eating.  Next time I will be ordering some curry to-go!

Question:
What do you do to stay focused while at work or studying?
Do you chew gum? What’s your favorite flavor?
What is your favorite Thai Food?
