M and I are busy these two weeks leading up to Christmas. He has to complete two "community sessions" where he follows his preceptor around in the hospital and clinic, but the preceptor has been too busy to schedule the sessions throughout the semester so M has to do them before Christmas. He also has a final scheduled on December 21and then we are 3/8 of the way done with medical school! (if you're dividing the years into semesters)
Meanwhile, I get to scurry from training session to training session Friday and next week to complete CPE credits for my CPA license. Also, I am volunteering at the soup kitchen tonight and then we have a company holiday party on Thursday. They are encouraging people to sing karaoke - how do I develop the flu in the next two days so I don't have to attend? Speaking of work - I bought this for fun and it's the highlight of my week. A sweet fun thing in a boring gray world!
This weekend we'll have to fit in Christmas shopping for our families. Maybe if I catch the flu no one will get mad if I don't go home for the holidays. And I could lose enough weight to look hot in Florida. Please gods of flu, let me catch something quick and non-threatening.
Speaking of weight loss, I inexplicably keep losing weight. Usually I fluctuate around 120-123 since I stopped working out regularly. Rarely does that number drop below 119 if I'm not focused on eating healthy and running. But since I stopped drinking heavily the scale has steadily dropped. This morning - 117.5lbs! I should shut my mouth and enjoy it but what if it's all muscle mass I'm losing?? M thinks it's because of the alcohol - which easily cuts out 1000 excess calories a week. Gotta start running and lifting weights again so I don't get paranoid.
That was the good part of the blog post, if you feel like continuing on to the ranting negative part of the post feel free...
I won't be up for any Daughter of the Year awards any time soon especially after tomorrow.
I am not going to my dad's wedding or celebratory dinner on 12/12/12.
[Sorry for the following impersonal numbers - these women are very nice and good people but the story tends to get confusing for outsiders if I don't quantify.]
In 2008 my parents divorced (#2) and we kids (from marriage #1) took it pretty hard. Though my dad may have been in a different state of mind - I was still reeling from my stepmom of 16 years moving away. He began dating right away and got engaged in 2010 (#3) while my wounds were still fresh. Then unexpectedly #3 moved back to her home in California in 2011 and their marriage was called off - without any explanation of what happened.
We have since heard rumors, but if I have learned anything from my parents it is not to believe a damn thing any of them says. Take life with a grain of salt. On the day my dad was supposed to get married to #3; he met #4 for a date on 11/11/11. Three years after we went through that rocky divorce, #4 and her children came to stay for Christmas.
8 months after meeting, they got engaged at an amusement park. And one year, one month, and one day later after they met - they are getting married.
Why am I not going even if I could get off work on a Wednesday to drive 5 hours roundtrip? Because if I pulled this kind of stunt with my life neither of my parents would show up either. In fact, I wouldn't expect them to go after dragging them through so much shit in less than four years. It is hurtful, it is selfish, and it is downright immature. Marriage is a life commitment and not some game where you can start over if you spin the wrong number.
