Saturday is Poetry Day...the Wedding

Saturday is Poetry day...the Wedding (source) First let me tell you that I'm not here today, I'm at my nephew's wedding in Alsace, the sun is shining and we're having a marvelous time. As a non digital-native I still find it strange to think that I can write that here at the living room table in my jimjams on Thursday morning and it will apear by magic on Saturday morning, by which time I'll by dressed in my best ( I hope!). As a child the only way to know if a friend was free was to go and knock on the door and drone "Is so-and-so coming out to play?" to whoever answered. Now, we would never dream of knocking on anyone's door, it's either a text or you know them well enough that you're already in with the kettle on/bottle open before they get down the stairs. Anyway I digress. Today's poem is the poem my best friend read at my wedding (and I read at hers three months previously - I'm such a copy cat!) You may well know it, it's called-   "The Art of marriage".

A good marriage must be created.

In the marriage the little things are the big things.

It is never being too old to hold hands.

It is remembering to say 'I love you' at least once a day.

It is never going to sleep angry.

It is having a mutual sense of values and common objectives.

It is standing together and facing the world.....

It is forming a circle of love that gathers in the whole family.

It is speaking words of appreciation and demonstrating gratitude in thoughtful ways.

It is having the capacity to forgive and forget.

It is giving each other an atmosphere in which each can grow.

It is a common search for the good and the beautiful.

It is not only marrying the right person.

It is being the right partner.

Wilfred A. Peterson.

Anyway I must leave you, the speeches are about to start.
