SEAC Run Club

Last night I went to run club at the South End Running Co. My friend Allie introduced me to it and I am so happy and I think I am in love!  It’s a group workout that is really mellow but super effective and hard. The group meets at 6:30pm on Thursday nights at the South End Athletic Co for “group drills and a light workout.”IMG_3010 Everyone gathers outside the storeIMG_3013And we run the 1.4 miles to the nearby track. It is a nice light jog at your own pace. I would say we averaged about a 9 1/2 minute mile. IMG_3016Once at the track we do a speed workout that varies each week. Last night we did a quick 4 lap tempo run:
400 meter sprint
2 laps of jog the curves, stride the straights
200 meter jog
200 meter sprint

That interval routine is the main part of the workout. Afterwards we all line up and do a series of drills and active stretching:
Running backwards
Bounding like a gazelle
Two legged jumps
Lunges
High Knee with a stretch

After the drills we ran two more laps around the track
Jog the curves, stride the straights

And then we make the 1.4 mile jog back to the store.

IMG_3018The sprint workout was shorter than most last night, so we ended up running 36 minutes and 4.3 miles. I turned my watch off while we did the drills so the total workout was about an hour long. I was definitely tired after and so happy I went. Allie and I were feeling lazy and unmotivated beforehand and almost didn’t go but we were so happy we did!

SEAC Run Club

If you are in the Boston area, this is definitely something you should come to. It is for all ages and running levels. The group meets on Thursdays at 6:30pm at South End Athletic Company’s store on 652 Tremont St. They also have group long runs on Saturday’s at 10am but I haven’t gone to one of those yet! I will, one day soon!

Have you ever attended a running group before? Did you enjoy it!?
