“Ooh, Aah, Maccabia!”
Those words will be echoing through my head over the next 3 days as campers show their spirit at my work. Maccabia is the Israeli version of the Olympic games, and at camp it is an all out color war of zany fun and endless energy.
I am not writing about the Maccabia games today though. Instead, I want to talk about my children’s spirit. My husband and I are camp people, so campy spirit is inbreed with us. It seems that it has rubbed off on our children, too, and just wearing team colors will not cut it with our campy kiddos.
I have an annual tradition on the day that my children find out what team they will be on. Right after the camp day, I head to the Dollar Store to buy trinkets and goodies that will spice up their color costumes.
So, here we go….this year’s colored treasures.
For the blue team kid…
For the purple team…
Both contain plastic tablecloth capes and light up glasses, and both contain silly spirit that will get them jazzed up for their team.
Yes…we’ve got spirit, yes we do. We’ve got spirit, how ’bout you??!!???
My song of the day is by the Rolling Stones. “She’s a Rainbow” pulls all the colors together to describe a personality, and yes, that’s how it is in my home. Yay for colorful traditions!!!
