Sisters, Saucony and My New Garmin

Posted on the 17 February 2012 by Mattie @comfyconfident

Happy Friday!!
I have a brag a little bit about my amazing sisters! They both mid-way through their ski season and racing all the time. Both of them just came off a week of great results.

imageI have mentioned this before, but my sister Julia is a professional skier on the US National team. I traveled to Lake Louise this past fall to watch her race and have written a couple things about her in the past. Anyway, she just WON 5 RACES IN A ROW AND THE US NATIONAL DOWNHILL TITLE!!
Pretty sweet and definitely not an easy thing to do.  Sisters, Saucony and my new Garmin [Lily front right, Kelly back left]
My youngest sister, Lily finished 2nd in a race yesterday which is a great result for her!  And Vinnie’s sister, Kelly, was 4th! Geezem Crow, these girls are kicken a**!
Side note: Lily and Kelly make these hilarious videos while they dance and sing along to songs. I have to get one to share with everyone, I promise they won’t disappoint!
[Lily – send me the video, so I can share]

I have been super lazy this week. I am not sure if it is because it is mid-Feb, dark and rainy with absolutely no snow or because I turned 26 and am now on the wrong side of 25. EEK.
Either way, I have barely worked out, clearly I am taking a week long break from my LiveFit program. oops.
And… I seriously need to clean up my diet. I have been a snack-master lately. And it is showing… GRRR. To combat the snacking issue, I am going to try to take a picture and write down everything I am eating, at least until I get it under control again. The number on the scale NEEDS to go down. It is pushing numbers, I never want to see. :)

[Example of my snacking issues: eating PB out of the jar, with a fork.. not ok.]

I managed to get a quick run in yesterday which was a nice little treat. I haven’t been running much because my right knee gets really sore (every time), so I have been trying to let it rest and heal. But, it was amazing to get outside and run. I forget how much I love it. While I was running, I was planning on all these races I wanted to sign up for and start training for, but was quickly reminded to take it easy when my knee started aching.

The big motivation to go running was to use my new Garmin that Vinnie gave me for my birthday!! I am not much of a gadget person, but I was excited to see how this thing worked. It took me a little while to get it working because it was locating satellite’s and taking its sweet ‘ole time, but once it started tracking my run, it was awesome. It told me my pace, how long I had been running and the distance I had covered.
Now I understand how people can just go out and run forever. When you have a watch to tell you how far you have gone, it is much easier than using land marks and Map my Run as a guide. I ended up running 3.05 miles at a pace of 8:13. That’s not to shabby for my first run in a long time. I am going to have to stick to shorter distances until my knee heals… which better be soon.

Running outside in New Hampshire in the winter is tough because I never know what to wear, but I had the perfect amount of layers on yesterday thanks to my awesome new Saucony SportTop. It looks sporty yet still stylish and feminine!

IMG_2319Like I said before, I don’t really care about having the best equipment or nicest clothes, but this Saucony top is so great. I got it a little while ago and wear it as an every day shirt with jeans or yoga pants. Yesterday I tried it out for running and loved it. It is so comfortable, breathes well and offers great mobility.  It’s even got this cool  USB LED light which holds 2 hours of charge [not sure why you need that, but cool none the less] and an invisible slim pocket on the right side seam for your iPod or phone.
I mean you can’t go wrong with a hot pink running shirt. ;)

I hope to get back out on the road for a run again soon, but it looks like today I am going to be going to the gym to do some cardio and circuits. I pinned a couple workouts that I want to try, I just need to decide! This one is at the top of the list.

Share some of your most recent workout pins, I want to try them!
