For someone who loves camp as much as I do, I am clueless when it comes to actual camping. I’ve been a couple of times, but really, I’m a sucky sleeper and need a bed. I love the outdoors, but I’m not exactly a “roughing it” type.
When I was a kid growing up in Ohio, my parents’ idea of camping was to go on our synagogue retreat weekends to a local resort which hosted canoeing and hiking. I don’t think I actually slept in a tent until I was 20-something years old and out of college.
Last night, however, my daughter learned how to pitch a tent during a Girl Scout troop meeting. Check out a couple of these photos.
I love that I’d have no idea where to start with pitching a tent, but my girl gained some skills and can do it with the help of her friends. Good for her and kudos to the troop leader for teaching it to these adorable cuties. I just love that!
So, I’m tipping my hat to a new skill gained and to the great outdoors. I love Coldplay’s tune, “Sky Full of Stars,” and hopefully, my daughter and her troop mates will soon learn to put their newly acquired skill to practice under a “sky full of stars.” I just hope I don’t have to chaperon! ;)
