Sleepless Nights

Posted on the 17 October 2012 by Paige
The rats teeth were getting long so I gave them a turkey leg bone to chew on. They can chew the whole bone to dust in a few days (you've got to make sure  you give them hard stuff to chew on to wear down their teeth so they don't grow in to the top of their mouth, kind of like an ingrown toe nail).  This caused Calvin to have a fight with the other boys, Neil and Parson, because he didn't want to share. They made lots of noise screaming and running so I ran to the cage. Parson ran out and I pulled Neil out (him and Calvin were standing on their back legs, trying to look as big and scary as possible, they both had a bit of each others hair in their mouths). I put Neil on the floor beside the open cage and made him a "nest" out of a clean rat rags and a box. Parson followed me back to bed and went to sleep beside me. I didn't go to sleep because I was worried I was going to roll over and crush him or he wouldn't be able to breathe under the covers. After a while I got really tired so I tired to put him back in the cage but whenever I tried to put him in he would scream and jump onto my shoulder. So then I made him a nest beside my bed. He was fine and went to sleep but I still couldn't sleep. What if one of the dogs or cats opened my bedroom door and he got out and got lost or they ate him?
