Small Minds In A Large World

Posted on the 04 February 2015 by Sreesha @petrichor_blore

The AIB Knockout video got taken down from YouTube. I am heartbroken. You would think it’s cos I keep ranting about free speech and all, but that’s not it. I am sad because I only saw Part 1. I have no clue what happened in the parts that followed. I feel sad that I have completely let down the only two actors in Bollywood whom I find cute (yeah, so what if I haven’t seen a single Arjun Kapoor movie till date, he still looks yummy). I feel so apologetic (*sighs*). I feel sad and rather jealous cos I am the only Indian left who did not see it fully. Unlike Rakhi, I cannot proclaim "Mere Ranveer-Arjun aayenge..."
As for free speech, guys, are you even serious? Remember PK? Remember Da Vinci Code? Remember Charlie Hebdo? Yup. This is that same small-minded planet where shit like that happens. People turn to drama queens cos they can’t handle a joke. Cos a movie, or a book, or a cartoon or a video clip can threaten you. Just like that. A culture or religion that took years, centuries to grow gets threatened by something as simple as… oh, I promised I wouldn’t rant in this one.
Are people so afraid nowadays? Of everything? That’s the paradox here – the older people are convinced the world is going to dogs and that the younger generation is just trouble on steroids and cocaine. The younger people feel the older generation is senile, but they insist on preserving age-old outdated customs like pickles in a jar. They speak of things they have half-baked knowledge of and a little knowledge is a very, very dangerous thing. Wait, you there, waiting to give me heat for using the words “age-old outdated customs”, tell me more about “culture” and how you still wait for your NRI aunt to send you goodies you can brag about?
Perhaps the older generation is right. We are a bunch of dogs who jump even before someone has picked up a stone. And since there are so many drama queens and divas blowing on their wet nails that no one dare throw a grain at – I was wondering if a large bar of Snickers might help?Copyright Petrichor and Clouds 2013 at petrichorandclouds.blogspot.com Please do not reproduce the material published here.
